Kim Ju-ha Opens Up About Marriage and Divorce for the First Time on TV
Anchor and broadcaster Kim Ju-ha has spoken for the first time about her marriage since her divorce.
In a preview for MBN's new talk show 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night,' Kim Ju-ha introduced veteran announcer Kim Dong-gun, saying, "He was someone who came even to my child's first birthday party after I got married and had a baby." When Kim Dong-gun mentioned attending her wedding and the first birthday, Kim Ju-ha sheepishly replied, "I didn't intend to talk about the wedding..." Kim Dong-gun lightened the mood by retorting, "Do you have a child without getting married? You had a child because you were married," drawing laughter from the studio.
Kim Dong-gun also expressed his affection for his junior, Kim Ju-ha. He recalled, "Most juniors receive a gold ring when their child has their first birthday, but I gave Kim Ju-ha a golden key. I had high expectations for her, not just as a broadcaster." Kim Ju-ha responded, "I feel sorry and would like to take this opportunity to apologize," to which Kim Dong-gun eased the tension by asking, "What is there to apologize for?"
Kim Dong-gun also touched upon Kim Ju-ha's divorce, stating, "Divorce isn't a sin, is it? After the divorce, she stopped contacting me altogether. But she excelled even more as she focused on broadcasting. I thought she would become a great announcer."
He continued, "So I corrected her and scolded her a lot. But later, she raised her child well on her own. That's why she's doing so well today. Now she's so grown up, she tries to match me," adding humor.
Kim Ju-ha married in October 2004 and gave birth to her first child in 2006. After taking a maternity leave of about 1 year and 8 months for her second child and childcare, she returned to work. However, she experienced conflicts due to her husband's infidelity and violence, leading her to file for divorce in 2013. Her ex-husband, Mr. Kang, was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension in 2014, and Kim Ju-ha finalized her divorce in June 2016.
At the time, the Supreme Court's Third Division ruled, "The two shall divorce, and the husband, Mr. Kang, shall pay 50 million won in alimony to his wife, Ms. Kim. Ms. Kim shall pay 1.021 billion won to Mr. Kang from her assets of 2.7 billion won registered in her name as property division."
This marks the first time Kim Ju-ha, who quietly endured after giving over 1 billion won of her assets to her ex-husband, has directly addressed her marriage and divorce on broadcast.
Kim Dong-gun, who debuted as an announcer for Donga Broadcasting in 1963, hosted 'Finding Dispersed Families' for 138 days and has been the longest-serving MC for 'Gayo Stage' for 40 years.
His appearance on this show is noteworthy as it is the first time in his broadcasting career he has appeared on a solo talk show on another network. The production team shared that Kim Ju-ha personally persuaded him for a month to secure his appearance.
The production team stated, "We are deeply grateful to announcer Kim Dong-gun for agreeing to be our highly anticipated first guest." They added, "This is a golden opportunity to witness announcer Kim Dong-gun's lively wit and hear life stories never before revealed anywhere. Don't miss it."
MBN's 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night' will premiere on Saturday, the 22nd, at 9:40 PM.
Following the release of the preview, Korean netizens commented, "Anchor Kim Ju-ha is finally opening up. I'm excited to see what she'll talk about," "I'm already looking forward to the chemistry with Mr. Kim Dong-gun!" and "I support her as she overcomes difficult times." These reactions expressed anticipation for the first broadcast.
