A Japanese woman in her 50s, accused of assaulting BTS member Jin (Kim Seok-jin) during a fan event, has been indicted and sent to trial.

According to TBS News on May 18th, the defendant, identified as Ms. A, reportedly stated, "It's frustrating. I never thought this would be a crime."

Previously, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office indicted Ms. A, a Japanese national in her 50s, without detention on May 12th, on charges of indecent assault in a crowded public place.

The incident occurred in June last year at the '2024 Festa' event held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul. During Jin's 'Jin Greeting' session, where he engaged in free hugs with approximately 1,000 fans, Ms. A forcibly kissed Jin on the cheek, sparking controversy.

The moment Ms. A forcibly kissed Jin quickly spread across social media, igniting widespread debate. Consequently, some fans filed complaints through the National Petition system, requesting an investigation into Ms. A for alleged indecent assault in a crowded public place.

Police had initially booked Ms. A and requested her appearance. However, due to the expected lengthy investigation period, the inquiry was suspended in March. Upon Ms. A's arrival in Korea and voluntary appearance, the investigation was reopened, and the case was subsequently transferred to the prosecution.

Netizens expressed strong reactions online, with comments such as 'This is a crime disguised as fan affection,' 'It's incomprehensible how she claims she didn't know it was a crime,' and 'Imagine how taken aback Jin must have been.' Many are calling for strict legal repercussions.
