Jin's 'Surprise Kiss' Accused Woman Claims 'Frustration,' Netizens React with Disbelief
A Japanese woman in her 50s, who faces legal action for an unsolicited kiss on BTS member Jin (Kim Seok-jin), has reportedly expressed feelings of "frustration."
The incident occurred in June of last year during BTS's '2024 FESTA' celebrations in Seoul. Jin, having recently completed his military service, held a hug event to meet and connect with fans. During the event, the woman, identified as Ms. A, unexpectedly kissed Jin on the cheek while embracing him, leading to public backlash.
Jin's visibly awkward reaction to the unwanted advance quickly drew criticism, with many deeming the act as sexual harassment. Following a complaint filed by fans, the police initiated an investigation. However, due to the time required for thorough examination, the investigation was initially suspended before Ms. A was eventually booked. In May, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul forwarded the case to prosecutors, charging Ms. A with indecent act by compulsion under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Ms. A reportedly voluntarily appeared before the police after entering South Korea. On June 12th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office indicted Ms. A without detention. Subsequently, Japanese media outlet TBS reported Ms. A's statement, quoting her as saying, "I am frustrated. I never thought this would be considered a crime."
Korean netizens expressed shock and disapproval, commenting, "This is beyond common sense," "The victim is Kim Seok-jin, why is the perpetrator feeling frustrated?" and "She should be strictly punished according to the law."
