INFINITE's Jang Dong-woo Returns with Self-Funded Solo Album 'AWAKE' After 6 Years, Vows to Showcase All-Rounder Skills
Jang Dong-woo of the group INFINITE has made his comeback with his first solo mini-album 'AWAKE,' approximately six years and eight months after his debut.
He expressed that the album is filled with his deep artistic thirst and desire to perform on stage, accumulated during his long hiatus.
Notably, the album is entirely self-funded and self-produced, with Jang Dong-woo taking on the role of producer. He revealed in a recent interview that he handled everything from investment and securing loans for funding to personally selecting staff, composing, choreographing, directing the music video and photoshoot, and overseeing hair and makeup, all to imbue the album with his unique color.
"It was a journey to find my own color. I wanted to repay the fans who waited for me," Jang Dong-woo stated. "Although I debuted as a rapper, I've consistently practiced breakdancing and improved my singing skills. I wanted to show my all-rounder abilities."
He further shared that the experience of producing the album with his own money gave him a deeper understanding of the staff's hard work and a new perspective on the production process. "I want to express my respect and gratitude to all the producers," he added, highlighting his newfound appreciation.
During the difficult period of military service and the pandemic, which led to a lack of activities, Jang Dong-woo worked tirelessly with those who believed in and supported him to complete the album. "It was an invaluable experience that money can't buy. Even if I release another album, I think I'll handle it all myself," he emphasized, noting that this process was a crucial step in his growth.
Jang Dong-woo shared that he reached a state of 'enlightenment' through various challenges and negotiations during the preparation process. This led him to develop a positive mindset of finding solutions and forging his own path instead of giving up when difficulties arise. Quoting Nietzsche, he affirmed, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger," expressing his determination for future endeavors.
Netizens reacted enthusiastically, with comments like: "So excited for Jang Dong-woo's solo album! 'Self-funded' means the quality will be amazing," "Waited through military service and the pandemic, finally a comeback, I'm so touched," and "Can't wait to see Jang Dong-woo on stage again! I'll be cheering for you!"
