Lee You-mi Sheds 11 lbs for 'You Killed Me', Vows to 'Save Herself Through the Role'
Actress Lee You-mi has undergone a dramatic transformation for her role as Hee-soo in the Netflix original series 'You Killed Me'.
'You Killed Me' tells the story of Hee-soo, who is suffering from domestic violence, and Eun-soo, who steps in to save her. The series explores the solidarity between two women as they search for hope amidst dire circumstances.
Lee You-mi portrays Hee-soo with a pale, lifeless complexion, revealing she lost approximately 5 kg (11 lbs), bringing her weight down to 36 kg, to embody the character's despair.
In a recent interview with Sports Seoul, Lee You-mi shared, "Following Hee-soo's torn and broken emotional journey, I stood before the camera with a desperate desire to save myself through this character. I entrusted myself to this tragic fate out of a desire to support these two women."
She also commented on the chilling performance of Jang Seung-jo, who plays her abusive husband. "Jang Seung-jo acted so well that it was easy to grasp the emotions. He truly acted in pain before my eyes. It might seem easier to be the one getting hit, but the one hitting is several times more distressed."
Having already proven her acting prowess in projects like 'All of Us Are Dead' and 'Squid Game,' Lee You-mi credits her childhood habit of imaginative training as a driving force behind her strong performances.
Netizens have lavished praise on Lee You-mi's performance, with comments like, "As expected from Lee You-mi, the immersion is incredible," and "Losing weight for a role, she's truly amazing as an actress," and "Looking forward to her next project."
