Kim Won-hee Reveals Reason for Joining 'Puzzle Trip': A 'Destined Encounter' with Adopted Person Kerry

Broadcaster Kim Won-hee has revealed the behind-the-scenes story of her participation in MBN's 30th anniversary special 3-part series, 'Puzzle Trip.'

'Puzzle Trip' is a real observational travel program that captures the authentic journey of overseas adoptees who come to Korea to find a lost piece of their puzzle, their 'self' and 'family.' It has been selected for production support in the public non-drama category by the Korea Creative Content Agency in 2025.

In a written interview, Kim Won-hee stated, "I've always been interested in programs related to adoption," explaining her decision to choose 'Puzzle Trip' without hesitation. She described her encounter with Kerry, an overseas adoptee of the same age, as 'destined,' expressing her special affection.

She particularly expressed heartache thinking about how Kerry, adopted overseas at a young age, must have endured her difficult times alone. Kim Won-hee cited the meeting in Bukchon as the most impressive moment, honestly sharing, "The comfortable atmosphere of Bukchon contrasted with Kerry's past, making it even more memorable."

Kim Won-hee personally prepared and served Doenjang Jjigae (soybean paste stew) and home-cooked meals for Kerry. "Although I'm not skilled at cooking, I wanted Kerry to taste various Korean foods from her birth country. I prepared the meal with the heart of taking care of family," she added, showing a maternal warmth towards her peer.

Furthermore, Kim Won-hee expressed admiration for Kerry's positive attitude and gratitude towards life, noting that she is a police officer in the U.S. "We clicked well, and I think we'll become good friends," she said, showing her affection. She revealed that they have maintained consistent contact even after filming, sometimes exchanging greetings via translator. Kim Won-hee also looked forward to their next meeting, saying, "When Kerry comes back to Korea, I want to have a deep conversation."

When asked about stars she would recommend as puzzle guides, Kim Won-hee chose singer Ivy, explaining, "Ivy is a warm-hearted and good person inside. I believe she would do a great job as a guide, as if she were searching for her own family."
