Director Edgar Wright, known for his distinctive style, has opened up about the casting process for Glen Powell, the lead in his upcoming film 'The Running Man'.

In a YouTube interview released on the channel 'Cine21' on the 20th, Wright sat down with director Bong Joon-ho to discuss behind-the-scenes stories and casting decisions.

Wright emphasized that casting Glen Powell was crucial to the film. "He looks like an actor, but at the same time, he can seem like a very ordinary person," Wright explained, describing the essence of the character Ben Richards.

He contrasted Powell's character with contemporary action stars, noting, "Nowadays, action stars are almost superhuman. Most modern action protagonists are already complete superheroes. 'John Wick' is the best killer in the industry, and 'Jason Bourne', even with amnesia, is an elite agent. Not to mention superheroes. But Ben is the opposite; he shouldn't be like that." Wright stressed the need for a realistic protagonist whom the audience could connect with as 'one of us'.

Wright specifically mentioned needing a different side of Glen Powell for this role. "He's actually a very charming, funny, and kind person. So, at first, I told him, 'I don't need a bright and cheerful Glen, I need an annoyed Glen,'" he said, drawing laughter.

Director Bong Joon-ho also shared his deep impression of Powell's energy in the film. Describing Powell's action as "sweaty action," Bong noted the constant undercurrent of anger, highlighting its visceral impact.

In 'The Running Man', Glen Powell portrays Ben Richards, a laid-off family man frustrated by an unfair reality. "He's a person who has always suffered losses because he couldn't tolerate injustice," Wright said, explaining that Richards' anger and energy drive the film's narrative.

International fans are buzzing about the interview, with comments like 'Can't wait to see Glen Powell's transformation!', 'The collaboration between Edgar Wright and Bong Joon-ho is intriguing!', and 'A realistic action hero? This sounds amazing!' flooding social media.
