Veteran Singer Nam Jin Recounts Near-Death Experiences from Vietnam War and Past Attack
Legendary trot singer Nam Jin shared harrowing tales of his past, including a brush with death during the Vietnam War and a shocking attack, on the latest episode of MBC's 'I Live Alone'.
On the broadcast aired on the 21st, fellow singer Park Ji-hyun visited Nam Jin, who has maintained his stellar career for over 60 years. Park Ji-hyun inquired about the challenges Nam Jin faced during his long career.
Nam Jin responded by asking, "Have you ever almost died?" and recounted a dangerous incident from his time in the Vietnam War. "Just as I was about to leave after a meal, I heard a 'whoosh~' sound. Everyone had fallen down. It turned out a bomb had malfunctioned," he described the perilous situation.
Later in the show, Nam Jin revisited past suspicions surrounding the 'Na Hoon-a assault incident', which he had previously discussed on 'Radio Star'. He revealed, "Reporters wrote articles asking if I had instigated it from a rival camp," recalling the tense atmosphere and subsequent investigation by prosecutors. "When I went to the prosecutor's office, they released me in just 5 minutes," he clarified, stating the allegations were baseless.
He then disclosed a more shocking revelation that came to light decades later. Nam Jin explained that the assailant had first targeted the late actor Shin Seong-il before approaching him. "A stranger appeared by my bedside early in the morning. He demanded money," Nam Jin stated, leaving the studio in shock.
When Nam Jin refused, the assailant chillingly asked, "Will you give me money if I harm your rival?" The situation escalated further when the assailant attempted to set fire to Nam Jin's home in Mokpo. "My mother was living there. I still get angry thinking about the portraits of my grandparents burning," he shared, recalling the painful memory.
