AKMU Parts Ways with YG Entertainment After 12 Years, Vow to Remain YG Family
Acclaimed sibling duo AKMU (Lee Chan-hyuk, Lee Su-hyun) will be parting ways with YG Entertainment after a 12-year journey together.
On the 21st, YG Entertainment released an official statement detailing a conversation held about six months prior between founder Yang Hyun-suk and AKMU members Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun.
The agency shared, "AKMU's sole concern was whether to continue with YG, with whom they've shared ups and downs for the past 12 years, or to pursue independence for new challenges." Yang Hyun-suk reportedly encouraged the members, suggesting that exploring music in a new environment could be a valuable experience, and pledged continued support from behind the scenes.
"We express our deep gratitude to AKMU for gifting the public with amazing music and emotions during our time together," YG stated. "We sincerely support their new endeavors and will actively assist them in any way needed."
The AKMU members conveyed their affection, declaring, "We are YG Family forever" and "We'll come running whenever you call." Reports indicate that the duo also presented Yang Hyun-suk with handwritten letters and bowed deeply to express their heartfelt appreciation.
AKMU, who first signed with YG Entertainment after winning 'K-Pop Star Season 2' in 2013, garnered widespread popularity with hits such as '200%' and 'Give Love'.
