Actress Oh Yoon-ah Shares Surprising Experience with Son with Developmental Disability During US Trip
Actress Oh Yoon-ah has candidly shared her experiences regarding cultural differences she encountered with her son, Min-i, during their trip to the United States.
A video released on the YouTube channel ‘Oh!Yoon-ah’ on the 21st showed Oh Yoon-ah and Min-i enjoying their travels between LA and Chicago. At a famous restaurant in Chicago, Oh Yoon-ah first mentioned Min-i's recent condition, saying, "He looks the same on the outside, but he's lost a little weight. His stomach has gone down." She added, "He doesn't eat much unexpectedly, and I think it's because he walks around a lot, so it happened naturally."
She then discussed the 'difference in atmosphere' she felt while staying in America with Min-i. When an acquaintance traveling with them remarked, "People here don't find it strange at all to see a child like this walking around," Oh Yoon-ah deeply agreed, adding, "Americans don't say anything even when Min-i walks around. There's no restriction... Perhaps because of that, the child seemed much more comfortable."
Oh Yoon-ah was particularly impressed by the bright demeanor of individuals with developmental disabilities she met there. She expressed her surprise at the different atmosphere compared to Korea, stating, "It seemed like they live much more leisurely and comfortably because there are fewer things they are told not to do."
Meanwhile, Oh Yoon-ah married in 2007 and welcomed her son Min-i, but divorced in 2015 and has been raising him as a single mother. She has received much support since revealing that Min-i has a developmental disability and continues to share her parenting experiences and thoughts through broadcast and YouTube activities.
Netizens reacted positively, with comments like 'It's so good to see you both,' 'It's a relief that Min-i looks so comfortable,' and 'I hope Korea becomes a more inclusive society too.'
