Actor Cha Hyun-seung Shares Daily Life Battling Leukemia During Second Round of Chemotherapy
Actor Cha Hyun-seung has openly shared the challenging process of his second round of chemotherapy, drawing concern from fans.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel titled "Damage Increases With Each Round of Chemo," Cha Hyun-seung documented his hospital admission for the treatment. He spoke about battling boredom and fatigue, noting, "My eyebrows fell out a lot. They look full on camera, but they've become very sparse in reality," revealing the tangible difficulties of chemotherapy.
Following the treatment, Cha Hyun-seung reported severe headaches and nausea, resorting to painkillers. However, the pain persisted. "I'm even breaking out in a cold sweat," he shared, "and my stomach feels so bad I can't eat the food." His struggles throughout the night, tossing and turning in discomfort, deeply worried his fans.
Facing the continuation of chemotherapy the next day, Cha Hyun-seung remarked, "This chemo drug seems to cause more severe headaches and nausea." Yet, he bolstered his resolve, saying, "But I have to do it. Fighting." The overwhelming pain and queasiness returned, leading him to exclaim, "I feel like I'm going to throw up." That night, he mentioned, "I was in so much pain all night and sweated so much, I felt sticky, so I changed my clothes completely," highlighting his difficult experience.
Even after completing the treatment, Cha Hyun-seung had to be readmitted due to low platelet counts. Showing his tendency to bruise easily, he expressed his hope, "I hope my counts go up quickly." He also experienced an allergic reaction during a blood transfusion. A sudden fever reaching 38 degrees Celsius and a drastic drop in neutrophil counts presented another crisis. "This one seems exceptionally difficult. I've had chills for three consecutive days," he lamented. Seeing his distress, his mother visited the hospital, and Cha Hyun-seung apologized, "I'm sorry for causing you worry and hardship."
However, a glimmer of hope emerged. As his counts improved, Cha Hyun-seung was moved to a general ward. "My immune count has increased significantly, so I've been moved to a general ward. Discharge isn't far off now," he joyfully announced. He even shared a moment of returning to normalcy, visiting a convenience store just outside the sterile environment, raising expectations for his recovery.
Meanwhile, Cha Hyun-seung announced his battle with leukemia in September, receiving widespread support from many.
Netizens expressed their support, commenting, "Cheer up, you'll overcome this!", "I almost cried watching the video. I'm cheering for you", and "I truly wish for your speedy recovery."
