Announcer Nam Hyun-jong Reveals He Was Scammed Out of 60 Million Won in His Early Career on 'The Manager'
KBS announcer Nam Hyun-jong shared a heartbreaking story about falling victim to a real estate scam early in his career during a recent broadcast.
On the episode of KBS2's entertainment show 'The Manager' (also known as 'Boss in the Mirror' or 'Sadanggwi') aired on the afternoon of the 23rd, Nam Hyun-jong's daily life was showcased alongside that of national judo team coach Hwang Hee-tae. TVXQ's U-Know Yunho made a special appearance as an MC.
Nam Hyun-jong, who was recently selected as a new reporter for the show '6 o'clock, Hometown', met with broadcaster Sayuri to receive tips on food reporting.
When Sayuri asked him why he wanted to be on '6 o'clock, Hometown', Nam Hyun-jong confessed his past experience with a rental deposit scam. He revealed, "I wanted to live a prosperous life, but I was scammed just two months after joining KBS." He continued, "Out of a total loss of 65 million won, I got back 5 million won, so I ultimately lost 60 million won. That's why I want to work hard for a long, long time."
Fellow announcer Uhm Ji-in shared a surprising anecdote: "The day after the scam, Nam Hyun-jong went to work and reported on 'Rental deposit scams occurring in Changwon officetels' himself on the news."
Reacting to this, Jun Hyun-moo quipped, "I've had a similar experience. While reporting on 'fake gasoline', it turned out to be the place I had refueled the day before." He added, "Announcers might seem smart, but many are 'smart fools'." Uhm Ji-in further emphasized Nam's dedication, saying, "That's why Hyun-jong works even harder. He started at a deficit of 60 million won."
Netizens reacted with sympathy and encouragement, commenting, 'Cheer up, Announcer Nam!', '60 million won is a huge amount... that's so unfortunate', and 'It's amazing that you continued working after being scammed.'
