BIFAN Hosts AI & XR Forum, Exploring Future of Creation in the Age of AI
The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) and the French Embassy in Korea's Cultural Department successfully concluded their joint forum, 'The Next Code of Creation: AI and XR,' held in conjunction with the 'Digital November 2025 AI·XR Exhibition: MetaSensing – Sensing Spaces.'
The forum took place on the 21st at Platform-L Contemporary Art Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, delving into the new possibilities that AI and XR technologies are opening up in the realms of creation and storytelling.
The event was structured into three sessions. In the first session, 'Reality and Mimesis in the AGI Era,' Professor Kim Dae-sik from KAIST provided insights into the significance of human experience and mimetic creation in the age of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). He projected that the era of AGI is not far off and explained the capabilities of generative AI in identifying patterns across various data types, as well as physical AI that can mimic human movement.
Professor Kim also forecasted the expansion of the content business, stating, "Just as there are 'super luxury cars' in the automotive market, in the content market, 'super luxury content' featuring real humans will occupy less than 10%, with the remaining 90% becoming disposable content."
The second session featured a one-on-one dialogue titled 'Sensory Spaces Built with AI,' with director Park Sun-joo and artist Park Seung-soon. Director Park Sun-joo presented a VR work at this year's BIFAN that recreated the voice of the late artist Nam June Paik, engaging with the audience. Artist Park Seung-soon showcased experimental AI art with his AI film 'How to Listen to Music on the Moon.' This session particularly focused on the paradigm shift in the music industry with the transition from the 2D internet to the 3D internet.
The final session, 'The World Connected in Real-Time,' brought together PAPRI Studio, creators of the winning work 'Kitty's Secret Message' for the Sanrio Virtual Festival 2025, and ENZ + ROCKSU, an innovative media art duo known for their 'Labyrinth' project, which created a floating 3D holographic space. They shared experimental cases of reconstructing contemporary sensory experiences through AI and interactive media, discussing how technology can extend beyond tools to encompass emotions and sensations.
The forum was supported by SBS A&T, K-Hi-Tech Platform, and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity's 'AI·XR Based Science and Culture Spreading Project.'
Korean netizens expressed excitement, with comments like 'I'm looking forward to seeing how far AI and XR technologies will advance' and 'The predictions about the content market are intriguing.' Many were impressed by the experimental approaches of the participating artists.
