YouTuber Wonji's Subscriber Count Plummets by 20,000 Amidst 'Employee Overwork' Controversy
YouTuber Wonji, embroiled in a controversy over alleged 'employee overwork,' has seen a significant drop in her subscriber count.
As of the morning of the 3rd, the subscriber count for 'Wonji's Diary,' the YouTube channel operated by Wonji, stood at 999,000. This marks a decrease of over 20,000 subscribers in just about 10 days since the controversy erupted.
The issue began with a video titled ‘Looking for a 6-pyeong Office,’ which was uploaded to her channel. In the video, Wonji introduced her new office space, a compact 6-pyeong (approximately 20 square meters) unit located in the basement. The lack of windows and the cramped environment for four employees working together quickly drew criticism and sparked the 'employee overwork' debate.
As the controversy escalated, Wonji promptly removed the video and issued an apology. "I sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused to viewers regarding the office environment in the video uploaded today," she stated. She explained, "The ventilation system for the entire building is designed to circulate air, so we believed it wouldn't be a significant issue despite the absence of windows."
Wonji further added, "As this is my first office, there are many aspects where I was inexperienced and lacking. I will actively incorporate the feedback received and strive to show improvement."
Wonji, born in 1988, is known not only for her 'Wonji's Diary' channel but also for her appearances on the ENA entertainment show ‘World Travel Battle’ seasons 1 through 3, alongside fellow travel YouTubers PaniBottle and KwakTube.
Netizens reacted to the news with comments such as, "While there might have been misunderstandings during editing, a windowless space that small is indeed concerning..."
