Kim Go-eun on Reuniting with Jeon Do-yeon: 'It Felt Like a Miracle to Act Alongside the Person Who Inspired Me to Become an Actor'
Actress Kim Go-eun shared her thoughts on reuniting with Jeon Do-yeon for the Netflix series 'The Price of Confession'.
In an interview held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the morning of the 12th, Kim Go-eun reflected on working with Jeon Do-yeon again, approximately 10 years after their collaboration in the 2014 film 'The Memoirs of a Murderer'.
'The Price of Confession' is a mystery thriller depicting the events surrounding Yoon-soo (played by Jeon Do-yeon), who is framed for her husband's murder, and Mo-eun (played by Kim Go-eun), an enigmatic figure known as a witch.
Kim Go-eun revealed, "Although we initially spoke on the phone, saying 'It's so good,' and 'Let's do well together,' we didn't have many opportunities to meet on set." She added, "It was particularly disappointing when filming the punishment room scene, as it felt like I was talking to a wall." However, she expressed feeling a special connection during scenes like the transport vehicle, shower, and the ending sequences.
She confessed, "Jeon Do-yeon sunbaenim was the reason I first dreamed of becoming an actor." She continued, "While 'The Memoirs of a Murderer' felt surreal, like a dream, this time, acting alongside the senior actress who inspired me felt truly miraculous."
"During 'The Memoirs of a Murderer,' sunbaenim helped me a lot. This time, I tried to take care of her," she said, sharing anecdotes like, "Sunbaenim, your legs must be tired," with her own unique brand of affection. "I was happy that being able to joke and banter on set felt like proof of my growth as an actress. Sunbaenim also laughed a lot at my jokes," she recalled.
Jeon Do-yeon had also expressed her deep trust in Kim Go-eun at the production presentation for 'The Price of Confession.' Kim Go-eun stated, "Sunbaenim's praise resonates more because it's sincere, not just to make me feel good." She added, "When I hear, 'Go-eun, you did so well,' I truly acknowledge it myself. Hearing it in a public setting made it even more impactful."
Regarding the scenes depicting Mo-eun's past filmed in Thailand, Kim Go-eun shared, "I enjoyed the process of creating the scenes with the director." She elaborated, "I had to express the moment of emotional collapse after losing my brother and father. Later, when Jeon Do-yeon sunbaenim, who arrived in Thailand later, praised me, saying, 'I heard you created the scenes with the director, and you did so well,' I was deeply moved."
Meanwhile, Kim Go-eun will continue her interview in part ④ after wrapping up discussions about 'The Price of Confession.'
Netizens reacted warmly to Kim Go-eun's heartfelt sentiments about Jeon Do-yeon, with comments like 'The meeting of these two actresses alone raises expectations,' 'I can feel Go-eun's growth as an actress,' and 'It's heartwarming to see the great senior-junior relationship,' expressing their anticipation for the drama.
