Several highly anticipated Korean films, initially slated for release this year, are now set to hit the big screen in 2026. After extensive periods of reorganization, refinement, and strategic timing, these Korean cinematic offerings are poised to ignite the box office in the coming year.

'Project Y,' a thrilling tale set in a vibrant city, follows Mi-seon (Han So-hee) and Do-kyung (Jeon Jong-seo) as they embark on a daring heist of black money and gold. Having premiered at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival's Special Presentations, received an official invitation to the 30th Busan International Film Festival, and won Best Film at the 10th London East Asia Film Festival, 'Project Y' has already garnered critical acclaim.

Initially expected to be released within the year due to widespread interest from major film festivals, 'Project Y' will now greet audiences first through global film festivals before its official theatrical release on January 21, 2026, marking its entry into the 2026 lineup.

'Kyungju Trip,' a revenge drama initially slated for release in the latter half of this year, will also be meeting audiences next year. The film centers on a mother who, after the tragic loss of her youngest daughter, learns of the perpetrator's release and sets off for Gyeongju with her three daughters to seek vengeance. The cast boasts acclaimed actors including Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon. Notably, Gong Hyo-jin once fueled anticipation by posting on her social media during the July release of Lee Jung-eun's film 'Zombie Daughter,' asking, "When are we releasing?"

'To the End of the World,' starring Choi Min-sik and Park Hae-il, was also targeted for a second-half release but has seen its schedule postponed. This film depicts the story of an escaped convict with limited time and a patient with no money who coincidentally come into possession of a large sum of money and embark on a journey together. The film, which wrapped up shooting in 2019, has experienced prolonged delays due to the impact of COVID-19. Despite being selected for the 73rd Cannes Film Festival and as the opening film for the 26th Busan International Film Festival, a precise release date remains unconfirmed.

'Jeongga's Ranch,' which completed filming in 2021, is also preparing for a 2026 release. The movie tells the story of two brothers who have raised cattle for 30 years without exchanging a single word. It stars Ryu Seung-ryong and Park Hae-joon.

'The Resurrection Man,' featuring Gu Kyo-hwan, Shin Seung-ho, Kang Ki-young, Kim Sia, and Kim Sung-ryung, is also heading to the big screen next year. Based on a webtoon of the same name, 'The Resurrection Man' follows a job-seeker who discovers his ability to revive every 72 hours and is subsequently pursued by those who have uncovered his secret.

Gu Kyo-hwan's other leading role in 'Snowfall' is also anticipated for a 2026 release. Directed by Kim Yoon-seok, who also stars, 'Snowfall' begins as a stationmaster completes his final shift at a train station he dedicated his life to, only to hear a news report about escaped prisoners from an overturned prison bus.

Additionally, the hard-boiled action film 'Tropics,' depicting a 24-hour struggle for survival in Bangkok starring Woo Do-hwan, Jang Dong-gun, and Lee Hye-ri, is in preparation for release. The film 'Pavane,' based on the novel 'A Requiem for the Living' by Park Min-kyu, is also set to meet audiences. Directed by Lee Jong-pil, it stars Go Ah-sung, Byun Yo-han, and Moon Sang-min.

Korean netizens expressed mixed feelings, with comments like "I was just waiting for the release, it's a shame," "But it must be worth the wait, right?" and "Now I have a reason to go to the cinema in 2026."
