Park Na-rae's 'Injection Aunt' Controversy Escalates with Emergency Exit Ban Request
The controversy surrounding alleged illegal medical practices involving broadcaster Park Na-rae has entered a new phase, with Lim Hyun-taek, former president of the Korean Medical Association, requesting an emergency exit ban for an individual referred to as 'Injection Aunt' (Ms. A).
The situation is effectively heading towards a formal investigation, as Lim Hyun-taek disclosed the Ministry of Justice's official response to his request on his social media.
The Ministry of Justice, in its reply, stated that the Minister of Justice can request an exit ban for individuals currently undergoing criminal trials or under investigation, after reviewing the necessary legal requirements and procedures.
Previously, Lim Hyun-taek had filed a complaint against Ms. A with the prosecution for violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Public Health Crimes, the Medical Service Act, and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. He also stated that Park Na-rae was similarly reported for violations of the Medical Service Act and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.
Ms. A is accused of performing medical procedures, such as IV drips, in non-medical settings like officetels or vehicles. The controversy intensified with the testimony of Park Na-rae's former manager and the subsequent release of photographs.
While Ms. A has denied the allegations on social media, the medical community emphasizes that the core issue is whether she possesses a domestic medical license. Performing medical acts without a license is a violation of the Medical Service Act, punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.
The Korean Medical Association has urged the government for a swift and strong response. Meanwhile, Park Na-rae announced a temporary hiatus from all broadcasting activities until the matter is resolved.
Korean netizens are expressing strong reactions, with comments like, 'Why do celebrity-related cases always drag on?' and 'This is an opportunity to strongly punish unlicensed medical practice.' There's also a sentiment of 'Hope Park Na-rae is properly investigated as well,' as they call for a resolution.
