Comedian Kim Soo-yong Recounts Near-Death Experience: Declared Dead, Revived En Route to Morgue

Comedian Kim Soo-yong has shared a shocking story of his near-death experience, revealing that he was declared dead after collapsing from cardiac arrest and only regained consciousness while being transported to the morgue.

A video uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Jo Dong-ari' on the 14th, titled 'The Decisive Moments of Kim Soo-yong's 20-Minute Cardiac Arrest Not Mentioned on You Quiz', featured his colleagues Ji Suk-jin and Kim Yong-man recounting the harrowing incident.

Kim Soo-yong collapsed suddenly on November 14th last year while filming for Kim Sook's YouTube channel in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province. He experienced cardiac arrest on site, and his heart stopped beating for approximately 20 minutes. Fellow actor Im Hyung-joon provided his angina medication, and Kim Sook immediately called emergency services. Kim Sook's manager performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took over emergency procedures.

Kim Yong-man recalled, "I was in Japan at the time, and Kim Sook called me. I thought it was a joke at first, but then she started crying and asked for Soo-yong's wife's number." He continued, "I heard that a death pronouncement had already been made. When they said his heart hadn't beaten for over 20 minutes, I couldn't say anything."

Ji Suk-jin added, "He wasn't regaining consciousness, so we were on our way to a hospital in Chuncheon. We were preparing for the worst, even considering the morgue." He explained, "Then we changed direction towards a hospital in Guri, and that's when he came to."

Kim Soo-yong later commented, "Hearing that story later, I found it truly horrifying." Miraculously regaining consciousness, he underwent angioplasty with stent placement and is currently recovering in the intensive care unit.

He also shared a humorous anecdote from immediately after waking up. "When I opened my eyes in the ICU, I remembered the jumper I was wearing that day. It was my favorite, so the first thing I asked was, 'Where's my jumper?'" he recalled. "When I tried to sit up, the medical staff told me, 'What are you doing? Please lie down,'" he said, eliciting laughter. It turned out the sleeves of his cherished jumper had been cut off during the emergency treatment.

Upon his return to filming, his colleagues greeted him with applause. Kim Soo-yong, showing his signature composure, quipped, "If you've been to the other world, you should lose weight," further lightening the mood.
