Singer Seol Woon-do Mentors Anchor Uhm Ji-in's Surprising Singing Debut
On KBS2's 'My Boss is an Ass!', anchor Uhm Ji-in has thrown her hat in the ring for a singing career, with veteran trot singer Seol Woon-do stepping in as her mentor, creating much amusement.
During the broadcast on the 14th, Seol Woon-do first gave viewers a tour of his home, which was filled with various types of viewing stones, collected from around the world. His two-story house, adorned with over 1,000 viewing stones, resembled a museum. When asked about the price of his most expensive stone, Seol Woon-do surprised everyone by stating, "Some fist-sized ones can cost hundreds of millions of won."
After the stone tour, the real singing lesson began with a skill test, where Seol Woon-do transformed into a strict, tiger-like teacher. When Kim Jin-woong, who majored in vocal music, passionately sang 'Woman Outside the Window,' Seol Woon-do sternly remarked, "Why are you singing 'Woman Outside the Window' in front of me? You should choose my song," drawing laughter. Next, Nam Hyun-jong chose Seol Woon-do's hit song 'Let's All Cha Cha Cha,' but his inability to remember the lyrics disappointed Seol Woon-do further. "Are you doing this on purpose? You should just stick to being an announcer," he advised, adding to the fun.
Finally, it was Uhm Ji-in's turn, who is challenging herself to become a singer. She chose Baek Ji-young's 'Like Being Shot' and sang her heart out, but Seol Woon-do abruptly cut off the music before she finished, causing an explosion of laughter. "You sang in a way that made the listener uncomfortable. If I were a viewer, I wouldn't give you points," he critically evaluated Uhm Ji-in's performance.
After the skill test, vocal lessons began to improve Uhm Ji-in's singing. Seol Woon-do recommended his hit song 'Love's Twist,' suggesting it would be enjoyable for viewers to sing along to. Uhm Ji-in, re-energized, sang 'Love's Twist,' but Seol Woon-do questioned, "As an announcer, why do I feel like you have a lisp?" This prompted Jeon Hyun-moo to exclaim, "It's truly fatal for an announcer to be criticized for their pronunciation," leading to more laughter.
Seol Woon-do rigorously trained Uhm Ji-in, focusing on the pronunciation of each word. He even brought out a viewing stone imported from Madagascar, suggesting, "If you hold this against your stomach for 3 minutes, your voice will change," incorporating a folk remedy(?) that added to the entertainment. Remarkably, after holding the stone, Uhm Ji-in's singing became more stable, and Kim Jin-woong and Nam Hyun-jong praised, "The resonance is better." However, in a separate interview, Seol Woon-do humorously stated, "The 'magic stone' thing is a lie. If Uhm Ji-in wins first place in a competition, I'll write a song for her. But if she doesn't win first place, don't even contact me."
Meanwhile, 'My Boss is an Ass!' airs every Sunday at 4:40 PM on KBS2.
Netizens reacted enthusiastically to the broadcast, with comments like 'Seol Woon-do is so funny,' 'Cheering for anchor Uhm Ji-in's singing debut,' and 'The stone-based vocal training is so novel.'
