It has been four years since comedian and singer Kim Cheol-min, who bravely battled lung cancer, passed away.

Kim Cheol-min died on December 16, 2021, at the age of 54, after a long fight with lung cancer. He was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer in August 2019 and passed away after approximately two years of treatment.

His public battle with cancer garnered both sympathy and support from many. Notably, his decision to try Fenbendazole, a deworming medication for animals, attracted significant attention as a potential treatment.

However, he later admitted the treatment was unsuccessful and advised others against trying it. "While there were temporary improvements, it didn't kill the cancer. Instead, the cancer spread further," he candidly shared. "If I were in that situation again, I would never do it."

At the time of his stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis, Kim Cheol-min's tumor measured 4.25 cm, and the cancer had spread to his liver, lymph nodes, and pelvic bone. His condition deteriorated to the point where he could no longer receive chemotherapy and was moved to a hospice.

Adding to the sadness, a family history of cancer was also present. His elder brother, Kim Gap-soon, who was a Na Hoon-a impersonator, passed away from liver cancer in 2014, and his parents and eldest brother also succumbed to cancer.

Despite these hardships, Kim Cheol-min never lost hope. Even during his illness, he appeared on KBS1's 'Achim Madang,' singing and sharing his story, and his guitar-playing performances brought courage to many.

He actively communicated with the public, posting photos from his hospital bed and expressing his gratitude for the continuous support and encouragement he received.

Six days before his passing, Kim Cheol-min left a poignant message on his social media: "Thanks to you, I was happy. Thank you. I love you." The following day, he changed his profile picture to a black and white photo of himself smiling brightly, leaving a lasting impression as if bidding a final farewell.

Kim Cheol-min debuted as a comedian in 1994 and appeared in shows like 'Gag Ya' and the movie 'Cheongdam Bosal.' However, his most enduring image for the public is likely his decades-long busking performances in Seoul's Marronnier Park. He continued to sing on the streets even after becoming a comedian, leading many to remember him as the 'Busking Singer.'

Netizens are paying tribute, with comments like, "Rest in peace, Kim Cheol-min, wherever you are," and "Your laughter and songs brought us so much comfort. We won't forget you." Many also acknowledge his courage in sharing his Fenbendazole experience, calling it a "brave confession."
