Lee Su-ji and Jeong I-rang’s ‘Jamatabang’: SNL Duo’s Chemistry Shines as They Chat Like Real Sisters
K-entertainers Lee Su-ji and Jeong I-rang are winning over viewers with their witty chemistry in the Coupang Play web entertainment show, ‘Jamatabang’.
The show features the two comedians running a retro-style tea house, inviting guests to share lighthearted banter and in-depth conversations about their lives and work.
Leveraging their comedic timing honed on ‘SNL Korea,’ Lee and Jeong have infused the intimate setting of ‘Jamatabang’ with vibrant energy, quickly garnering a positive buzz.
In a recent interview, Lee expressed her gratitude for the viewers' enthusiastic reception. "We created a program with a retro tea house concept to peek into the guests' lives and works. I'm so thankful that viewers are enjoying it much more than we expected," she said. "I think our synergy really shows on screen because we genuinely have fun filming."
Jeong added, "I don't feel like I'm acting. When the cameras roll, we're just talking like sisters, and I think viewers find that comfortable. The viral success of the short-form clips is also a great encouragement. It really feels like our genuine fun is being conveyed."
A highlight of ‘Jamatabang’ is its high rate of improvisation. While the script outlines basic questions for guests to promote their work, the rest of the conversation flows spontaneously on set. The duo reportedly fills nearly 40% of the show with ad-libs, creating unique and engaging moments.
This improvisational flair is rooted in their extensive experience on ‘SNL Korea.’ Lee shared, "When I think about the meaning of ‘SNL,’ I get emotional. Thanks to ‘SNL,’ I’ve been able to appear on various programs now. It’s truly a moving program."
Jeong described ‘SNL Korea’ as the program that "let her out of a cave into the world." She elaborated, "When I did other comedy shows, I didn't get much broadcast exposure, and people would ask what I was doing. ‘SNL Korea’ is a program that exposed me to the world, saying, ‘There are people like this.’ It felt like finding a toy from a claw machine and giving it to a good owner."
When asked about dream guests, Lee enthusiastically suggested, "Song Kang was discharged from the military on October 1st. I heard he's been traveling abroad, but I hope he'll come out now. I was such a huge fan. I recovered while watching his drama in the postpartum recovery room."
Jeong playfully added, "I saw Park Jung-min in Hwasa's music video and watched it on repeat for two weeks straight. It would be great if he came as the celebrity Park Jung-min, but if he's shy, he can come with the concept of a neighborhood gangster trying to woo me."
Looking ahead, the comedians are eager to continue bringing laughter to their audience. Jeong stated, "We're having so much fun filming, and I want to convey that energy as is. No matter who our guests are, we'll provide laughter in our own way, so please look forward to it."
Lee concluded, "I just want to do even better. I hope many people can laugh at least once a day thanks to ‘Jamatabang.’ I'll work hard. Please keep watching until the end."
Korean netizens are reacting positively to the SNL duo's chemistry on 'Jamatabang,' commenting, "Their chemistry is so good," and "They really seem like sisters." Many are also expressing anticipation for future guests and stating, "I didn't even realize how time was flying by while watching."
