Pianist Lim Dong-hyek Hospitalized After Posting Suicidal Message Online; Police Intervene

Renowned pianist Lim Dong-hyek was taken to the hospital after posting a message on social media hinting at self-harm, prompting a police response.

The Seoul Seocho Police Station confirmed that officers were dispatched around 8:30 AM on November 16th following a welfare check report.

Police located and rescued Lim at a residence in Seocho-dong, Seocho District. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital and is reportedly in no life-threatening condition.

Earlier that morning, at approximately 7:34 AM, Lim had posted on his social media account, stating, "I have suffered from severe depression throughout my life as a pianist," and "Thanks to all of you, I have been happy and grateful."

Lim Dong-hyek is celebrated in the classical music scene, having won awards at prestigious competitions like the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Queen Elisabeth competitions, and was known for building a significant public fanbase prior to artists like Cho Seong-jin and Lim Yunchan.

Korean netizens expressed deep concern on social media and online forums. Comments included wishes for his recovery, such as "Hoping Lim Dong-hyek is alright" and "I hope he overcomes these difficult times and we support him." Many also voiced their relief that he is safe, with some saying, "I was truly shocked. Please share your beautiful music with us in the future."
