Veteran actress Jeon Do-yeon is set to star alongside Kim Go-eun in the upcoming Netflix original series 'The Price of Confession,' marking their reunion 10 years after their collaboration in the film 'The Concubine' (2015).

'The Price of Confession' is a mystery thriller that unfolds the story of Yoon-soo (Jeon Do-yeon), who is suspected of murdering her husband, and Mo-eun (Kim Go-eun), a notorious killer known as 'the witch,' as they cross paths.

Jeon Do-yeon takes on the role of Yoon-soo, who struggles to prove her innocence after being implicated in her husband's sudden death. "When I first read the script and began filming, I didn't fully grasp the price Yoon-soo would have to pay," Jeon shared with a laugh. "While filming, I thought, 'Is this character really going through so much hardship?' I didn't realize the cost would be this high, and it was truly difficult."

Despite the challenges, Jeon's decision to join the project stemmed from her ambition to tackle the thriller genre and her desire to work again with director Lee Jung-hyo, with whom she previously collaborated on 'The Good Wife' (2016). "The fact that it's a story about two women and a thriller simultaneously appealed to me," she stated.

Following Netflix's recent trend of showcasing projects with female leads at the forefront, such as 'Dear Parents' and 'You Killed Me,' 'The Price of Confession' is positioned as the concluding installment in this year's lineup of female-led narratives. Addressing the notion that 'stories centered on women are rare,' Jeon remarked, "I'm not sure if it's a good thing that films with two lead actresses are considered 'rare' or 'special.' Because there aren't many, they become rare, and our meeting is seen as incredibly special."

She further elaborated, "We don't call projects with two lead male actors special or rare, do we? While I'm happy to see more female-led stories, I also find it somewhat regrettable that they are viewed through such a special lens."

Jeon also expressed a desire for more diverse female narratives beyond maternal themes. "I regret that female-centric stories often rely on maternal love for their plots. Of course, Yoon-soo is a mother, so maternal instinct couldn't be entirely excluded in 'The Price of Confession.' I felt Yoon-soo's primary motivation was wanting to live with her child."

Complementing Jeon's performance is the dedicated portrayal by co-star Kim Go-eun. For this role, Kim underwent a radical haircut to portray her first-ever psychopath character. As Mo-eun, who proposes a deal to Yoon-soo, the two actresses engage in a tense psychological battle throughout the series.

"Mo-eun is a character who plans revenge, requiring a performance where emotions are not overtly displayed, which is actually more difficult," Jeon explained. "It's easy to get swept up by the co-star's performance, but Go-eun firmly maintained her character until the end. She portrayed the character of Mo-eun exceptionally well," she praised.

However, Jeon humorously noted, "I started filming without reading the entire script, and I didn't realize how little Yoon-soo and Mo-eun would actually interact! Although they eventually cooperate, I was surprised by how infrequently we met."

Concluding her thoughts, Jeon stated, "I wonder how many people constantly think about their age as they live. I aspire to be an actress who can choose projects without being overly concerned about casting or conditions as I age. Having tackled an intense project like this, I definitely want to take on a warm melodrama next."

Netizens are buzzing with excitement over the reunion of Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun, anticipating the intense psychological duel between the two acclaimed actresses. Many are calling it a 'meeting of trusted actors' and are already praising the project. Kim Go-eun's dedication, including shaving her head for the role, has also become a hot topic.
