Poppin Hyun-joon Faces Allegations of Assault from 20 Years Ago Amidst Controversy
Dancer Poppin Hyun-joon is embroiled in a dispute over allegations of assault against former dance team members from about 20 years ago, following his recent resignation from his visiting professor position at Baekseok University of the Arts.
Former and current dancers came forward on JTBC's 'Sakgeon Banjang' (Incident Report), claiming they were assaulted. However, Poppin Hyun-joon has denied these accusations, stating, "I may have cursed, but I did not engage in physical violence."
One accuser, identified as A, told 'Sakgeon Banjang' that they were hit with fists and feet, causing their glasses to bend and temporarily impairing their hearing. The alleged assault occurred after A made a mistake due to a last-minute choreography change during a regional performance.
Another former member, B, recounted being hit in the face with a casted arm at the age of 17, resulting in a knee injury that led to a period of significant personal struggle. A third individual, C, also claimed that verbal abuse and physical altercations were frequent, often stemming from minor issues like beverage choices or side dish preferences.
Poppin Hyun-joon reportedly countered the allegations by stating that his elbow was severely fractured at the time, making physical assault impossible. He admitted to using curse words but maintained he never resorted to violence, citing his smaller physique.
These assault allegations surface shortly after Poppin Hyun-joon resigned from his professorship on January 13th due to controversies surrounding his 'inappropriate remarks' made during a university lecture. He issued a public apology to his students via social media.
As the accounts from both sides diverge, further testimony and investigation are expected to clarify the truth behind these claims.
Korean netizens are reacting with a mix of skepticism and concern. Comments include, "Is there no end to the controversies surrounding Poppin Hyun-joon?", "Hoping for the truth to come out quickly," and "If the victims' accounts are true, this is truly shocking."
