Hyun Bin & Jung Woo-sung Clash in 'Made in Korea': A 1970s Power Struggle Set to Premiere

The production site of the Disney+ original series 'Made in Korea' has been unveiled.

On the 17th, 'Made in Korea' released a production diary video, highlighting key anticipation points for the upcoming series. Set in the tumultuous yet dynamic South Korea of the 1970s, the story follows 'Baek Ki-tae' (Hyun Bin), a man aiming to reach the pinnacle of wealth and power by turning the nation into a profit model, and 'Jang Geon-yeong' (Jung Woo-sung), a prosecutor relentlessly pursuing him to the brink.

The first major anticipation point is the densely woven storyline, driven by characters entangled in ambition. As writer Park Eun-kyo noted, these are characters who can "clash with full power," and Hyun Bin shared, "I think this is the character where the most direct desire has been expressed among the roles I've played so far." Jung Woo-sung also emphasized "the worldview of the script and the tension between characters," while Kang Gil-woo added, "Who wouldn't want to play such a captivating character?"

Secondly, anticipation is high for director Woo Min-ho's first OTT series, following his acclaimed works like 'Harbin,' 'The President's Affair,' and 'Inside Men,' which offered sharp insights into modern Korean history. Director Woo's expertise in solid script construction, intricate direction, edgy mise-en-scène, and unique character development is expected to deliver a cinematic experience akin to watching six feature films. Jo Yeo-jeong mentioned, "There are many times when the director points out a key aspect of a scene, and it resolves it in a way that gives me chills," while Park Yong-woo praised him as "a truly creative director," and Woo Do-hwan added, "The director seems to love this project more than anyone else on set."

Lastly, the third anticipation point is the perfect realization of the era through outstanding acting and meticulous historical accuracy. Director Woo Min-ho expressed his hope that "the colors and designs of that time would be expressed without appearing dated." Actor Noh Jae-won vividly recalled, "I can still remember the smell and the temperature. It was truly cold, scary, and vast." 'Made in Korea' breathes life into its historical setting through carefully designed lighting and cinematography based on thorough research, successfully visualizing the intense conflicts and desires of the characters amidst grand locations both within and outside Korea.

'Made in Korea' will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, the 24th, with the first two episodes releasing simultaneously. The series will run for a total of six episodes.
