The popular late-night talk show 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' is set to resume broadcasting after a brief hiatus following controversial remarks made by host Jimmy Kimmel about the late Charlie Kirk.

On Tuesday, April 22nd (local time), foreign media outlets, including The New York Times, reported that ABC and its parent company, Disney, announced the show's return. Disney stated in a release, "We made the decision to pause production last Wednesday to avoid escalating the situation unnecessarily during a time of heightened emotion in the country. We have had several long conversations with Jimmy and have decided to resume airing the show starting Tuesday."

The controversy began on the April 15th broadcast when Kimmel, during his opening monologue, addressed the political reactions surrounding the death of conservative podcast host Charlie Kirk, who passed away at the age of 31. Kimmel criticized the perceived politicization of Kirk's death by the 'MAGA crowd' and satirized former President Donald Trump's response.

He particularly mocked Trump's mourning process, comparing it to a four-year-old reacting to the loss of a pet goldfish. This commentary immediately drew backlash, with FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr threatening legal action against ABC and Nexstar Media Group, a major broadcast station owner, announcing they would replace the show on their affiliate channels. This pressure ultimately led to the show's suspension.

However, the decision to halt the program sparked widespread backlash, with many public figures condemning it as an infringement on freedom of speech. The decision to reinstate 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' was reportedly finalized by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment Dana Walden, who prioritized the company's interests over external pressure. It remains uncertain whether Nexstar and Sinclair will actually re-schedule the program.

Jimmy Kimmel has hosted 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' since 1999, establishing himself as one of America's longest-running talk show hosts. His political satire often sparks debate but also resonates with a large audience, earning him significant popularity. Beyond his on-screen work, he is also actively involved in charitable endeavors, aiming to make a positive impact on society.
