Singer Maya Announces Comeback After 12 Years with Self-Composed Album
Singer Maya is set to return with a new album featuring songs she personally composed and wrote, marking her first music release in approximately 12 years. Maya recently hinted at her comeback on social media, stating, "Over 10 years have passed since I decided to stop broadcasting, and the album work I've prepared for a long time is nearing completion."
This new release follows her 2013 single 'Wishing Not to Meet Even by Chance,' and it holds special significance as Maya has penned all the lyrics and composed all the music for the album. She shared, "Although you might have thought I was just farming, I've been spending busy days."
Maya plans to first unveil a track titled 'Fifty's Spring Fever' ('오십춘기'), dedicated to celebrating her 50th birthday, within this year, with the rest of the songs to follow. She mentioned that 'Fifty's Spring Fever' was arranged by Kwang-hoon Ha and that she has diligently studied traditional Korean music (Gukak). She expressed, "I have no regrets, even if I die now."
Following her last acting role in the 2013 SBS drama 'Ugly Alert,' Maya had largely halted broadcasting activities, embracing a life as a farmer after returning to the countryside. She had previously declared her retirement from television on social media, aiming for a fulfilling life. Her return to music as a singer, not just a farmer, is generating significant anticipation among fans.
Maya debuted in 2003 with the hit song 'Azalea' (진달래꽃), quickly becoming a fan favorite. Her powerful vocals and unique husky tone distinguished her in the music scene. She has reportedly continued her musical endeavors even during her break from public broadcasting.
