YouTuber Sanghaegi Faces Backlash Amidst Drunk Driving Allegations
Popular YouTuber Sanghaegi (real name Kwon Sang-hyeok), who boasts 1.65 million subscribers, is facing intense criticism due to allegations of drunk driving.
The controversy erupted following news that the Songpa Police in Seoul arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of refusing a breathalyzer test under the Road Traffic Act. Mr. A was reportedly driving under the influence and fled from the scene after being signaled to stop, only to be apprehended shortly after.
Speculation quickly arose online that the YouTuber in question could be Sanghaegi, based on the description of a male YouTuber in his 30s with a large subscriber base. Despite the lack of official confirmation or a statement from Sanghaegi himself, netizens have flooded his social media and YouTube channel comments with demands for an explanation and accusatory remarks.
Sanghaegi has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations, while the police are actively investigating the details of the incident with the arrested individual.
Sanghaegi is known for his Mukbang (eating show) content, often featuring real-sound eating and various challenges. Prior to his YouTube career, he served as a professional soldier and later worked as a personal trainer. He also made an appearance on the KBS2 variety show 'Donkey's Ears,' increasing his public recognition.
