A line delivered by actress Jun Ji-hyun in the Disney+ drama 'Polaris' has once again ignited a heated debate between South Korean and Chinese netizens.

The controversial dialogue states, 'Why does China prefer war? Nuclear bombs could fall on border areas.' This has triggered a strong backlash in China, with accusations of insult towards the nation.

As a result, advertisements featuring Jun Ji-hyun as a model for cosmetics and watches have reportedly been suspended, escalating the situation.

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University commented that while Chinese netizens are free to express their opinions on the drama, he pointed out that Disney+ is not officially serviced in China.

'They are caught watching content they didn't have permission for, yet they are shamelessly making unfounded complaints,' Professor Seo stated, criticizing the hypocrisy.

He further emphasized that if Chinese netizens wish to raise issues with the dialogue, their complaints should be directed towards the production company or Disney+ itself.

Professor Seo also suggested that this backlash stems from a 'fear' of the global success of Korean content, leading to attempts to tarnish K-content without regard for the facts.
