Veteran Comedian Jeon Yu-seong to be Laid to Rest Under Comedy Association's Auspices

The Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association has announced that it will oversee the funeral arrangements for the late veteran comedian Jeon Yu-seong.

On the 26th, the association stated, "We are saddened by the passing of Jeon Yu-seong, who made significant contributions to Korean comedy. His funeral will be held under the auspices of the association."

Jeon Yu-seong, aged 76, passed away at Jeonbuk National University Hospital the previous evening at 9:05 PM, following a recurrence of pneumothorax. As per his wishes, the funeral will take place in Seoul, with comedian Kim Hak-rae leading the arrangements.

Kim Hak-rae shared that Jeon Yu-seong had personally requested a funeral organized by the comedy community. The association quickly arranged a wake in Seoul to honor his request. Jeon Yu-seong had been in declining health since last year, having battled acute pneumonia, arrhythmia, and COVID-19. He was recently hospitalized due to a renewed pneumothorax.

Debuting as a writer for TBC's 'Show Show Show' in 1969, Jeon Yu-seong was also credited with popularizing the term 'comedian' in Korea. He taught at Yeswon Arts University's Department of Comedy, mentoring numerous junior comedians like Jo Se-ho and Kim Shin-young, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Jeon Yu-seong began his career in 1969 as a broadcast writer for TBC's 'Show Show Show,' actively working in comedy direction and writing. He is recognized for his significant role in popularizing the term 'comedian' in Korea. Furthermore, he dedicated himself to nurturing future talent as a professor in the Department of Comedy at Yeswon Arts University.
