CJ Culture Foundation Presents Joint Performance 'CJ X Berklee Band' Featuring Berklee Professors and Scholars
The CJ Culture Foundation is creating a special stage to nurture global music talent.
The foundation, part of the CJ Group's social contribution efforts, announced that it will present a performance by the ‘CJ X Berklee Band’ on October 24th at CJ Azit in Mapo-gu, Seoul. This collaboration will feature professors from the Berklee College of Music and CJ scholarship students.
This concert is part of the 75th ‘Jazz Live Club Day’ and is an extension of the ‘CJ X Berklee Music Concert’ series, which began in 2016. Professor John Paul McGee from Berklee's Piano Department and Vocalist Kaimy Masse from the Ensemble Department will perform jazz collaborations with CJ scholarship students Kim Tae-hyun (drums) and Jeon Chang-min (bass).
Kim Tae-hyun gained attention as a drumming prodigy at age 12, studied at Berklee from age 15, and set a record for the youngest graduate at 18. Bassist Jeon Chang-min is a skilled musician who has collaborated with artists like Yongjae O'Neil and Danny Koo, and will join the professors for this performance.
‘Jazz Live Club Day’ is a music festival involving performance venues in the Hongdae area, with a single ticket granting access to all stages. This year, a total of 13 teams will perform across five venues, including CJ Azit. Tickets are available for purchase from Melon Ticket at 40,000 KRW.
Furthermore, on October 19th, Berklee College of Music faculty will conduct a music ‘Masterclass’ for teenagers. Following a pilot session for CJ Donors Camp culture club students last year, this year's program expands to include youth from CJ Culture Foundation's ‘Tune Up Music Class’ and multicultural students.
A CJ Culture Foundation representative stated, 'We have prepared a collaboration stage that is rarely seen in Korea for ‘Jazz Live Club Day,’ offering a special experience to the audience.' The CJ Culture Foundation and Berklee College of Music continue their global music exchange through events like the ‘K-POP and Beyond’ symposium in Boston.
The CJ Culture Foundation is dedicated to supporting the development of Korean arts and culture while actively engaging in various social contribution activities for underprivileged communities. Through its collaboration with Berklee College of Music, it provides opportunities for young musicians to study abroad and collaborate internationally, fostering global music talent. Additionally, the foundation actively participates in academic exchange events aimed at globalizing and expanding the reach of K-pop.
