YouTuber Pilseungju (real name Kang Seung-ju), who touched many hearts by sharing his journey battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), has passed away at the age of 32.
Pilseungju's family announced his passing on social media on the 26th. Since 2022, he had been communicating with over 70,000 subscribers through his YouTube channel 'Pilseungju', documenting his courageous fight against ALS. His bright demeanor, never losing hope amidst his illness, resonated deeply with many.
Originally a national civil servant, Kang Seung-ju began experiencing ALS symptoms in early 2019, shortly after passing the exam at age 24 in 2017. By 2021, he could no longer walk without assistance and had to resign from his position. Eventually, his body's mobility became severely limited.
In 2022, he launched his YouTube channel, focusing on 'the daily life of an ordinary person with ALS.' Using videos filmed by friends and an eye-tracking mouse, he captured his positive outlook on life while confronting the unexpected disease. His unwavering hope, rather than despair, offered significant courage and inspiration to countless viewers.
His last video, titled 'Apple Juice is Just an Excuse,' was uploaded in May and has since been flooded with numerous messages of condolence. The wake has been set up at Hanil Hospital Funeral Hall, with the funeral procession scheduled for 8:30 AM on the 27th, and burial at Anlak Park in Jinju.
Kang Seung-ju initially achieved his dream by passing the national civil service exam at the young age of 24 in 2017.
