
Singer Jin Mi-ryeong Honors Late Ex-Husband Jeon Yu-seong, Recalling Their Unique 20-Year Journey
Singer Jin Mi-ryeong has sent a wreath to mourn her late ex-husband, comedian Jeon Yu-seong, drawing renewed public attention to their distinctive 20-year relationship that spanned a marriage and eventual separation.
The funeral for Jeon Yu-seong, a respected figure in the comedy world, has seen a steady stream of mourners since early morning. Among them, Jin Mi-ryeong, his former wife, sent a condolence wreath to express her grief.
Jin Mi-ryeong and Jeon Yu-seong married in 1993. While it was his second marriage and her first, they began their life together as a common-law couple without official registration. After approximately two decades, they parted ways in 2011.
In a past television appearance, Jin Mi-ryeong candidly discussed her relationship and breakup with Jeon Yu-seong. Responding to a host's comment about them being a sensational 'DINK' couple (Dual Income, No Kids) with strong personalities, she revealed, "I didn't want to get married officially. I also didn't want to have children."
She explained her decision not to have children, stating, "I was too busy taking care of myself. I handle everything from my hair to my outfits on broadcasts myself." She also mentioned, "I already had one child (from his previous marriage), so I decided not to have more." She added that Jeon Yu-seong accepted her decision.
Jin Mi-ryeong also shared the specific incident that led to their divorce. She recalled planning to meet Jeon Yu-seong for Naengmyeon (cold noodles). Upon arriving at the restaurant, she found he had already finished eating. When she was about to eat her order, he announced he was leaving, stating, "I've finished eating, and watching you eat is boring, so I'm going ahead." She explained that this moment made her realize it would be difficult to spend a lifetime together if he couldn't even wait for her to enjoy a short meal, leading to her decision to divorce.
Despite the eventual separation, Jin Mi-ryeong also reminisced about many happy and fun moments shared with Jeon Yu-seong. She recalled spontaneous train trips and adventurous backpacking trips abroad, filled with unique episodes.
Jeon Yu-seong passed away on the 25th at the age of 76 due to worsening pneumothorax, having refused life-sustaining treatment. His funeral is being held under the auspices of the Comedians Association.
Jin Mi-ryeong debuted in 1975 with the hit song 'High School Days' and has since become a beloved singer known for her distinctive vocals and captivating stage presence. She has showcased a wide musical spectrum, adeptly performing in various genres beyond trot music. Furthermore, she consistently engages with her audience through television appearances, charming fans with her approachable demeanor.
