Comedian Hong Hyun-hee Seeks Self-Discovery After Mental Health Counseling

Comedienne Hong Hyun-hee is embarking on a journey of self-reflection after undergoing mental health counseling, as shared on her YouTube channel, 'Hong Hyun-hee & Jason's Hong-seung TV'.

In a recent video, Hong Hyun-hee revealed that the repetitive cycle of work and childcare had led to overload, prompting her visit to a psychiatrist. During the session, she confessed, "I don't really have hobbies or specific tastes. My child loves cars, but I don't have anything I'm passionate about like a superfan. I don't even know how to find such a thing," expressing her struggles.

The specialist advised her, "Try to reduce overthinking and focus on action. Instead of worrying about what others think, listen to your own heart and find out what you truly like. Lastly, entrust things to Jason." This advice resonated deeply with her.

Following the consultation, Hong Hyun-hee shared her positive experience: "I realized I really enjoy organizing my thoughts. I used to doubt 'this is who I am,' but the counseling confirmed it. My path to change has become more concrete." She also touched upon her lifelong habit of people-pleasing, stating, "While being aware of others' perceptions has benefits in my profession, it's increasingly difficult for me as I get older. The advice to 'look out for yourself' made me emotional, and I felt so sorry for myself."

Hong Hyun-hee believes that counseling isn't necessarily a grand gesture but a significant transformation in itself, simply by the act of understanding oneself through conversation. She expressed hope for a more vibrant future. When asked about future aspirations, she mentioned wanting to host gatherings with friends over her favorite meals, choose dining spots with her husband Jason, take solo day trips, or pursue new learning experiences. She concluded by emphasizing, "Asking myself questions frequently seems to be the most crucial step," in her ongoing self-exploration.
