Sakaguchi Kentaro Breaks Silence on Dating Scandal at Seoul International Drama Awards
Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro addressed the recent dating scandal surrounding him as he appeared on a public stage for the first time at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2025.
The ceremony, held on the afternoon of the 2nd at the KBS Hall in Yeouido, saw Sakaguchi receive the Asia Star Award for his role in the Netflix drama 'After the Rain'.
Taking the stage, he began with a greeting in fluent Korean: "Hello, I am Sakaguchi Kentaro." He expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am thankful to receive such a glorious and excellent award." He added, "The work of an actor is, surprisingly, a series of quiet endeavors rather than what it appears to be. That's why I am still creating each work with all my sincerity."
"I want to express my gratitude to the director, fellow actors, and staff who worked with me on this project, and also to all the fans who warmly cheer me on. Thank you sincerely," he bowed his head.
When MC Ok Taec-yeon asked if he had a good dream the night before, Sakaguchi Kentaro revealed, "I was worried about how you all would take it, but when I walked the red carpet earlier, you all spoke very warmly, and I was very happy."
Earlier, Sakaguchi Kentaro caused a stir due to allegations of infidelity. Last month, Japanese entertainment magazine 'Shukan Bunshun' reported that he was living with a stylist, identified as Ms. A, who is three years his senior, in a luxury apartment in Tokyo. The report further alleged that while dating Ms. A, he had also been pursuing and dating fellow actress Nagano Mei, leading to accusations of a two-timing relationship. The situation was amplified by the fact that Nagano Mei herself was embroiled in a scandal last year involving an affair with the married actor Tanaka Kei.
Initially, Sakaguchi Kentaro was scheduled to attend the 30th Busan International Film Festival for his film 'Final Piece,' including a press conference and individual interviews. However, following the eruption of the scandal just before his visit to Korea, these schedules were canceled, and he only appeared on the red carpet prior to the opening ceremony.
Amidst this, Sakaguchi Kentaro, who received the Asia Star Award at the 'Seoul Drama Awards 2025,' indirectly addressed the controversy by stating, "I was worried about how you would receive me," making his remarks on the first official occasion after the personal scandal notably.
Korean netizens reacted with a mix of understanding and caution. Comments included, "He seems genuinely sorry, hope he reflects," "Glad he could still attend and receive the award," and "Despite the controversy, his fans still support him." Some expressed disappointment but acknowledged his efforts to address the situation.
