BTS's RM to Collaborate with SFMOMA for Landmark Exhibition 'RM x SFMOMA'
Global superstar RM of BTS is set to embark on an unprecedented collaboration with the renowned San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
SFMOMA announced on the 3rd that it will host a special exhibition titled ‘RM x SFMOMA,’ a joint project with BTS member RM. The exhibition is scheduled to run from October 2026 to February 2027.
This unique exhibition will showcase approximately 200 pieces, including RM's personal art collection alongside works from SFMOMA's own extensive holdings. It promises to offer a deep dive into RM's artistic sensibility and collecting aesthetic, organically connecting the visual and conceptual contexts of both collections.
A notable aspect of the exhibition is RM's direct involvement as a curator, marking a significant milestone. This collaboration is the first of its kind between SFMOMA and a K-pop artist in the museum's history.
The museum reportedly proposed the project first, recognizing RM's profound taste in art and his passion for contemporary art. The exhibition will be co-curated by SFMOMA and RM.
RM shared his thoughts, stating, "We live in an era defined by boundaries. I hope this exhibition serves as a space to reflect on the boundaries between East and West, Korea and the US, past and present, the individual and the universal." He added, "There is no single way to appreciate it, but I hope it becomes a small yet solid bridge for many people."
Janet Bishop, Chief Curator at SFMOMA, commented, "Visitors will have an unparalleled opportunity to experience the dialogue between RM's beautiful and contemplative collection of paintings and sculptures, displayed alongside the museum's own collection."
The exhibition will feature works by prominent artists from Korea and around the globe, including masters of Korean contemporary art. Many of the pieces to be displayed will be introduced to the public for the first time.
SFMOMA, one of the largest modern art museums in the United States, boasts a distinguished collection spanning painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, and media arts.
