BLACKPINK's Lisa Makes History at MTV VMAs, Clinches 'Best K-Pop' Award for Third Time
BLACKPINK member Lisa has achieved a monumental feat at the 41st MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), becoming the first K-pop solo artist to win the 'Best K-Pop' award three times.
The prestigious award ceremony, held on September 8th (KST) at UBS Arena in New York, recognized Lisa for her hit single 'MONEY'. The track, released in February, is the fourth pre-release single from her debut full-length album 'ALTER EGO' and features collaborations with global superstars Doja Cat and Raye, garnering significant attention upon its release.
This marks Lisa's third consecutive win in the category, following her previous victories in 2022 with 'LALISA' and in 2024 with 'ROCKSTAR'. Although unable to attend the ceremony in person, Lisa expressed her gratitude via video call, stating, "It's a great honor to receive this award. Thank you to Doja Cat and Raye for making this song special. It wouldn't have been possible without the fans."
Notable nominees in the 'Best K-Pop' category included other BLACKPINK members: Rosé for 'Toxic Till The End', Jennie for 'JENNIE', and Jisoo for 'Concrete'. The competition was fierce, with aespa's 'Armageddon', BTS member Jimin's 'Who', and Stray Kids' 'Chk Chk Boom' also vying for the award.
Hailing from Thailand, Lisa is renowned as BLACKPINK's main dancer and a sub-vocalist. Her solo debut with 'LALISA' in 2021 was a global sensation, captivating fans with her bold concepts and powerful performances. She recently expanded her musical horizons with the release of her first full-length album, 'ALTER EGO'.
