The SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'The Devil's Confession' has captivated viewers, with its third episode achieving a new personal best in viewership ratings.

According to Nielsen Korea on the 13th, the third episode aired on September 12th recorded a nationwide rating of 7.3%, with the highest momentary rating soaring to 8.3%. This achievement marks the number one spot among all channels and Friday miniseries in its time slot. The drama also proved its popularity with a 2049 viewership rating averaging 2% and peaking at 2.57%, ranking first among all dramas aired on Friday.

The episode unveiled the shocking truth surrounding serial killer 'The Mantis,' Jung Yi-shin (played by Go Hyun-jung). It was revealed that she had killed six men, not five, and her first victim, previously unknown to the public, was her own husband, the father of her son Cha Soo-yeol (played by Jang Dong-yoon).

The intense 15-minute standoff between the enraged Jung Yi-shin and the anguish-filled Cha Soo-yeol had viewers on the edge of their seats. Cha Soo-yeol managed to save Kim Tae-seok, who was on the verge of becoming the third copycat murder victim, marking a significant success for him as a police officer focused on saving lives.

Meanwhile, Kim Na-hee (played by Lee El) harbored suspicions about Jung Yi-shin's 'murder zero.' Cha Soo-yeol sought out Jung Yi-shin again to probe her past, but his efforts yielded little information. Amidst this, another 'Mantis' copycat murder occurred. The prime suspect, Seo Goo-wan, was hospitalized due to gunshot wounds, bringing the investigation back to square one.

The investigation team traced the signal from the third copycat murder victim's phone to a remote rural village. Here, Cha Soo-yeol's childhood memories of his father resurfaced. Following these fragmented memories, he discovered a corpse in a well along with a message from the killer: 'Welcome! Finally found you.' It became clear that the killer had orchestrated the entire situation, leading Cha Soo-yeol to uncover Jung Yi-shin's first murder.

He found skeletal remains and Jung Yi-shin's wedding ring in the well of the house where he grew up, prompting him to confront her about 'murder zero.' The subsequent 15-minute scene was particularly electrifying. Jung Yi-shin recounted her past, confessing to the accidental murder of her abusive husband and the subsequent disposal of his body. Her chilling laughter while watching the rain wash away the blood, and her declaration of 'luck' and 'peace' on that day, left viewers stunned.

Cha Soo-yeol, disgusted and enraged, called her a 'butcher who loves the smell of blood,' a 'Mantis,' and simply a 'monster.' However, Jung Yi-shin, still consumed by madness, provocatively urged her son to kill her, stating, 'Kill me! It's too much trouble for my son to have his mother alive.' The raw confrontation between mother and son, highlighting their irreconcilable natures, ended the episode on a powerful note.

The third episode of 'The Devil's Confession' stood out for its shocking narrative, suspenseful direction, and the brilliant performances of Go Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon, especially their gripping 15-minute dialogue scene. The next episode airs today, September 13th, at 10 PM.

Go Hyun-jung made her debut in 1989 as the runner-up in the Miss Korea pageant. She has since established herself as a leading actress in South Korea, recognized for her roles in numerous hit dramas and films. Her performances are consistently praised for their delicate emotional depth and commanding charisma.
