YoonA Delivers Catharsis as 'Tyrant Chef' Yeon Ji-yeong with Powerful Performance

Im Yoon-a, affiliated with SM Entertainment, is providing a cathartic experience to viewers with her deeply resonant performance as Yeon Ji-yeong in the tvN Saturday-Sunday drama 'Tyrant Chef'.

As the French chef 'Yeon Ji-yeong', who time-slips to a past era to create her best moments, Yoon-a is earning widespread critical acclaim week after week for her portrayal that has become one with the character.

In the 7th episode, to create a soup dish for the third competition, Yeon Ji-yeong sought out Jang Chun-saeng (played by Go Chang-seok) with the help of Lee Heon (played by Lee Chae-min). Despite facing firm refusal and various threats, she did not falter. She successfully moved Jang Chun-saeng by grilling a Dongnae pajeon, evoking his nostalgia for his hometown, in the pouring rain.

After finally obtaining the pressure cooker made by Jang Chun-saeng, Yeon Ji-yeong was ambushed by assassins sent by Prince Jesan (played by Choi Gwi-hwa) on her way back to the palace. Although she lost the lid in the struggle, she desperately clung to the pot itself and barely escaped the crisis with the help of Im Song-jae (played by Oh Eui-sik) and the Imperial Guard.

Despite collapsing from exhaustion, Yeon Ji-yeong rose again with an unwavering determination to not give up on the competition. Arriving safely at the competition venue, she ignited viewers' interest by exclaiming, "Shall I show you my skills?" with a competitive glint in her eyes.

Im Yoon-a's performance amplified the dramatic tension, from the persistent efforts to persuade Jang Chun-saeng to the desperate moments of protecting the pressure cooker. Her visuals, perfectly embodying a man in disguise, added another layer of entertainment to the drama. The intense gaze she displayed at the end, after overcoming hardships, left a strong lingering impression and heightened anticipation for the next episode.
