Gaeul, a member of the popular K-pop group IVE, recently showcased a different side of herself during a book talk session on the YouTube channel ‘MinumsaTV’. Having just concluded promotions for their latest mini-album ‘IVE SWITCH’, Gaeul discussed the group's new title track ‘HEYA’. She explained, “‘HEYA’ carries the meaning of hesitation, and it conveys the message that even amidst hesitation, we can find courage.”
Gaeul then opened up her personal bookshelf, sharing her favorite books and reading habits. She revealed her reading essentials, including bookmarks and memos, highlighting her dedication as a book lover. Gaeul expressed her fondness for mystery and thriller genres, which she has enjoyed since her school days, noting how their unpredictable plots stimulate her imagination. She specifically cherished the ‘Sherlock Holmes Complete Collection’ gifted by fans, even sharing her visit to the Sherlock Holmes Museum in the UK, proving her status as a true fan.
Furthermore, Gaeul recommended Gu Byeong-mo's ‘Wizard Bakery’ as a must-read for fans, particularly suggesting it for younger readers. For moments when comfort is needed, she chose Park Joon’s ‘Nothing Will Change If You Cry’, reminiscing about the heartfelt handwritten letters from fans. “Handwritten letters are filled with sincerity, and reading them gives me immense strength,” she shared honestly.
At the end of the video, when asked ‘What is a book to you?’, Gaeul answered ‘Blank space’. She elaborated, “Just as I draw my own story on a blank canvas while reading, books are a free space where I can expand my imagination,” expressing her deep affection for literature. Meanwhile, IVE is scheduled to appear at the ‘Music Station Super Live’ in Japan this July.
