
Jung Won-kwan Recounts the Tragic Death of Go Kim Hwan-sung: 'Not a Simple Accident, but an Unbearable Tragedy'
Singer Jung Won-kwan, formerly of the group 'Sobangcha' (Fire Truck), has opened up about the shock and emptiness he felt following the sudden death of the late Kim Hwan-sung, a member of the group NRG.
A YouTube channel released a video on the 16th, where Jung Won-kwan reminisced about his time as a producer for NRG's music. He mentioned co-producing NRG's first and second albums with Kim Tae-hyung before going independent after the second album's release.
During the conversation, Jung Won-kwan recalled the sudden passing of NRG member Kim Hwan-sung after finishing their first album promotions. He explained, "He had a cold and got a wisdom tooth extracted, which led to an infection that progressed to sepsis, and he lost his life in just three days."
Kim Hwan-sung tragically passed away in June 2000 at the young age of 19, due to adult respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis, complications from a viral pneumonia. His untimely demise sent shockwaves through his fans, the public, and his colleagues.
"After experiencing that, everything felt hollow. I stopped activities for a few years because I needed time to rest," Jung Won-kwan shared, revealing his pain. He added, "Hwan-sung's death wasn't just an accident; it was an incredibly devastating and difficult tragedy to accept. My heart still feels heavy thinking about it."
Jung Won-kwan debuted as a member of the popular 1990s group 'Sobangcha' (Fire Truck), receiving immense love from the public. Beyond his solo career, he has actively worked as a music producer, dedicating efforts to nurturing younger artists. Currently, he engages with the audience through various broadcast programs, showcasing his witty humor.
