Musical Actor Jung Sung-hwa Recounts Near-Fatal Stage Collapse During 'Hero' Performance

Musical theater star Jung Sung-hwa has shared a harrowing anecdote about nearly collapsing on stage during a performance of the musical 'Hero' due to extreme weight loss.

Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Zzanhang Hyung Shin Dong-yeop,' Jung detailed his experience while preparing for the film 'Hero.' He revealed that he lost 16kg in just two to three months, which led to health issues like hypotension.

Jung recalled the critical moment during the musical's finale, where he portrays Ahn Jung-geun ascending a scaffold. He explained that while singing atop the lift, which was about two stories high and lacked safety harnesses, he suddenly blacked out.

He described feeling himself fall forward, but fortunately, a prop rope around his neck caught him, preventing a severe accident. This story highlights the intense dedication and physical toll involved in his demanding roles.

Jung Sung-hwa is a renowned South Korean musical actor known for his powerful vocals and captivating stage presence. He made his debut in 2002 and has since starred in numerous acclaimed productions including 'The Man Who Was Thursday' and 'Rebecca.'
