J.Y. Park Appointed Co-Chair of Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange: 'Let's Make K-Pop a Global Bridge for Understanding'

J.Y. Park, the founder of JYP Entertainment, has been named as a co-chairperson for the newly established Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, expressing his determination to elevate K-pop's global influence.

The committee, a presidential initiative aimed at realizing the vision of becoming a 'Top 5 Cultural Powerhouse,' is set to launch this month. Kang Hoon-sik, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, announced the co-chair appointments of J.Y. Park alongside Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Yun-hee.

In a social media post, J.Y. Park shared his initial hesitation regarding a government role, citing the significant pressure and concerns involved. However, he was motivated by the 'special opportunity' K-pop currently has, stating, "I decided because I believe we must seize this chance."

Reflecting on his past efforts, including distributing promotional materials to US record labels in 2003 and Wonder Girls' historic entry into the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009, J.Y. Park reiterated his consistent dream: "For K-pop to be loved worldwide."

He pledged to meticulously refine and implement systemic support based on his field experience, aiming to provide effective assistance and create more opportunities for junior artists. Furthermore, J.Y. Park expressed his commitment to making K-pop a platform that transcends mere cultural promotion, fostering global understanding and exchange.

J.Y. Park is a renowned South Korean singer, songwriter, record producer, and the founder of JYP Entertainment. He debuted in 1994 and has produced numerous hit songs and successful K-pop groups like Wonder Girls, 2PM, TWICE, and Stray Kids. His efforts have been instrumental in the global expansion and recognition of Korean popular culture.
