Lee Byung-hun Clinches Fourth Best Actor Award at Buil Film Awards for 'The Match'
Actor Lee Byung-hun has once again solidified his esteemed reputation, securing his fourth Best Actor award at the 34th Buil Film Awards for his compelling performance in the film 'The Match' (also known as 'Seungbu').
The prestigious ceremony, held on the 18th at the Signiel Busan, was co-hosted by actors Kim Nam-gil and Chun Woo-hee. Amidst the celebratory atmosphere, Lee Byung-hun's portrayal of a Go player captivated the jury, earning him the top acting honor.
Accepting the award, Lee expressed his gratitude: "I would like to share this honor with Director Kim Hyung-ju, who brought 'The Match' to life, and all the staff and actors involved."
He reflected on the film's subject matter, stating, "When I first encountered Go, I, like many, may have thought it to be a slow and static game. However, delving into it revealed a sport more fiercely competitive and dramatic than any war. It truly is a reflection of life, which is why so many compare Go to the human experience."
Lee humorously recalled his history with the Buil Film Awards, mentioning, "I have a deep connection with the Buil Film Awards. Two years ago, I received my third Best Actor award for 'Concrete Utopia.' There's a saying that if you win three times, you get gold." He then playfully paused before adding, "No, I'll be satisfied with this," drawing laughter from the audience.
He further remarked on the longevity of the awards, noting, "I've seen that the Buil Film Awards started in 1958, took a long break, and this is the 34th ceremony. My acting career spans 30 years, and if you include television, it's been about 35 years. Looking back, the Buil Film Awards and my acting journey have aged together like old friends. I hope we continue to meet often in the future."
Concluding his acceptance speech, Lee announced the upcoming release of his new film, 'It's Never Too Late' (also known as 'Eojjeolsugeobseul'), stating, "My new film 'It's Never Too Late' will be meeting audiences next week. I hope everyone here will show great interest and come to watch the movie."
Lee Byung-hun is renowned for his versatility, effortlessly transitioning between dramatic roles and action blockbusters. His international breakthrough came with his role in the Hollywood film 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.' He has consistently delivered memorable performances throughout his career, earning him numerous accolades both domestically and abroad.
