Actress Kim Go-eun has revealed that the tears she shed during the press conference for Netflix's 'You and Everything Else' were not solely due to her role, but also stemmed from personal loss. In a recent interview, the star shared, "In 2023, I lost many of my closest friends in a very short period."

She continued, "By chance, I ended up filming 'Love in the Big City' and 'You and Everything Else' in the same year. It wasn't planned, but both projects focused on friendships in one's twenties, which brought back a lot of memories."

'You and Everything Else' depicts the complex and enduring bond between two friends, Eun-jung (played by Kim) and Sang-yeon (played by Park Ji-hyun), exploring intertwined emotions of love, admiration, jealousy, and resentment. For Kim, the narrative resonated on a deeper level. "I felt like I was telling Sang-yeon's story from Eun-jung's perspective, as the one left behind. Portraying her voice and reading her diary felt like honoring both her life and my own."

Kim became particularly emotional when imagining the final scene, where Eun-jung accompanies Sang-yeon for her assisted death in Switzerland. "When I imagined Eun-jung's heart in that moment, I thought, 'I want to send her off well.' In a way, it was also Eun-jung's chance to do that."

The actress reflected on the meaning of farewell. "We often don't get the chance to properly say goodbye to someone we truly love. Sometimes, we can't even be present at a loved one's passing," she explained. "But Eun-jung could be there at the end, to say, 'You worked hard, you endured well.' Even though Eun-jung was left behind, it felt like a gift. While undoubtedly painful, perhaps it lightened her burden just a little. Even now, thinking of that scene brings emotions to the surface."

Her candid words shed light on the reasons behind her emotional breakdown at the press event. "It's still difficult to put into words," Kim admitted. "I just hope you will write about it carefully."

Kim Go-eun debuted in the 2012 tvN drama 'Cheese in the Trap,' quickly rising to stardom. She has since garnered critical acclaim for her diverse acting range in films like 'Byeonsan,' 'Money,' and 'Hero.' Her portrayal of a pure and charming character in the drama 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' earned her widespread popularity.
