Renowned singer and producer Park Jin-young has been appointed as the co-chairperson of the newly established 'Committee for Cultural Exchange,' a presidential advisory body. This role signifies his transition from a pioneer actively promoting K-pop globally for nearly three decades to a key figure in shaping its institutional support and international cultural exchange.

In a statement shared on his social media on the 9th, Park Jin-young expressed a mix of apprehension and determination. "Taking on a government role is both a burden and a fear for someone in the industry," he wrote, "but K-pop is currently facing an extraordinary opportunity. I decided to seize this chance to elevate K-pop to the next level."

He recalled his unwavering dream since embarking on his US promotions in 2003 and Wonder Girls' historic Billboard Hot 100 entry in 2009: to see K-pop cherished worldwide. "Now, I will work to systematize the institutional support that I keenly felt was needed on the ground, creating more opportunities for our junior artists," he pledged.

His appointment has gained further traction with recollections from former Wonder Girls member Sunmi, who appeared on the YouTube show 'Salon Drip 2' on the same day. Sunmi reminisced about the group's US debut, expressing gratitude for Park Jin-young's hands-on approach, including distributing promotional materials himself. "When we were busking, JYP's Park Jin-young PD personally handed out brochures. It was a challenge taken on with pure passion at an age under forty. Looking back, it was truly our youth," she shared.

Fans and netizens have reacted enthusiastically, with comments like, "He was on the ground then, and now he's responsible for the institutional foundation too," and "This is a story only Park Jin-young could create." Others noted, "It's a testament to K-pop's growth as a significant industry that an industry insider is taking on a government role."

From a star producer and K-pop evangelist to a co-chairperson of a presidential committee, Park Jin-young's transformation from a hands-on leader to a figurehead responsible for institutional growth symbolizes a new turning point for K-pop.

Park Jin-young is the founder and main producer of JYP Entertainment, leaving a significant mark on K-pop history through his songwriting, composing, and production of numerous hit songs.

He has also had a successful solo career, captivating audiences with hits like 'Don't Leave Me,' 'Honey,' and 'She's gone.'

Furthermore, Park Jin-young has contributed to nurturing K-pop talent by actively participating in audition programs such as 'K-pop Star' to discover new artists.
