Former Wonder Girls member and singer Sunye has clarified her stance on the negative comments she received following her tribute to the late Charlie Kirk.

In a social media story update on the 17th, Sunye explained, "Upon seeing a video of a wife pleading for justice after her husband's tragic murder by shooting, I posted a tribute with a heavy heart, as I too am a mother and a person."

However, her post was met with unexpected criticism. Sunye questioned, "Why are you going to such lengths? People I don't even know are coming to my space to curse at me, expressing anger over Charlie Kirk's political stances, far-right and conservative issues, and even mentioning Wonder Girls. A person has died, and I felt a need to mourn."

She continued, "Are you perhaps laughing, thinking 'good riddance' about the death of a life? Are you angry because I did not remain silent? I ask that you do not resent my responses of 'delete and block' to the comments filled with inhumane language and unnecessary arguments that make this space unbeautiful."

Sunye stated that she mourned a tragic death as a human being, beyond her identities as a professional, a mother, or a woman. She also shared her desire to leave a slightly better world for the next generation. She believes that differing opinions and thoughts, when expressed through constructive dialogue, can lead to a better future.

Finally, Sunye urged that her tribute not be misconstrued as a political or religious statement, and requested an end to rude and inhumane behavior in her online space. Previously, Sunye had posted and later deleted a tribute to the late American conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was known as a close associate of former President Donald Trump, after facing criticism.

Sunye, a former member of the iconic K-pop group Wonder Girls, has transitioned into a successful solo career and acting pursuits. She is a devoted mother of three children, balancing her family life with her artistic endeavors. Her recent stage work includes the musical 'My Mother's House'.
