Actor Lee Byung-hun has opened up about the pressure he felt hosting the opening ceremony of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) solo.

At an open talk event held on the outdoor stage of the Busan Cinema Center on the afternoon of the 18th, the cast and director of the film 'Emergency Declaration' attended. The team included director Park Chan-wook, actors Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Yum Hye-ran, and Lee Sung-min.

'Emergency Declaration' tells the story of Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), a salaryman who felt content with his life until he was unexpectedly laid off. The film follows his personal war to find re-employment, aiming to protect his wife and two children and secure the home he painstakingly purchased.

Adding to the anticipation, the film was selected as the opening film for the 30th BIFF, premiering for audiences on October 17th. Notably, Lee Byung-hun took on the role of the sole host for the opening ceremony, making the event even more significant.

Reflecting on this, Lee Byung-hun shared, "It was around the time the Busan International Film Festival first began that I started my film career. As the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary, I'm also marking my 30th year in cinema, so I had a special feeling."

He continued, "When I was first offered the MC position, I initially declined because I find standing on stage quite difficult. However, hearing about the 30th anniversary and reflecting on my own journey and thoughts, I felt it would be meaningful for me to do it. I made a big decision, thinking it would carry various significances, especially since our film is the opening movie."

However, Lee Byung-hun humorously added, "As the director advised me, I thought I should just focus on acting. I once again realized that being an MC is no ordinary task," drawing laughter from the audience.

'Emergency Declaration' is set to officially open in theaters on October 24th. This year's Busan International Film Festival will run until October 26th at the Busan Cinema Center and surrounding areas.
