Actress Im Yoon-ah, under SM Entertainment, is drawing significant attention for her compelling performance in the tvN weekend drama ‘Chef of the Tyrant,’ making viewers even more immersed in the story.

In the series, Im Yoon-ah plays Yeon Ji-young, a French chef who time-slips to meet the absolute-palate tyrant King Lee Heon (played by Chae Min Lee), earning praise each week for her multi-dimensional portrayal of the character.

During the ninth episode, after the second competition ended in a draw, Yeon Ji-young, despite King Lee Heon’s concerned advice to halt the contest, demonstrated her unwavering resolve to uphold the sincerity of the royal kitchen chefs and refuse submission to the Ming Dynasty, deeply moving viewers.

In the subsequent third competition, she successfully completed a black chicken samgyetang, perfectly satisfying the tastes of Lee Heon and Woo Gon (played by Kim Hyung-mook). When the Ming Dynasty chef Gong Mun-rye (played by Park In-soo) was unable to taste the food due to illness, she presented a special dish, wishing for his happiness regardless of victory, thus touching the hearts of Gong Mun-rye and the Ming chefs, ultimately leading the royal kitchen team to victory and resonating profoundly.

Following this, Yeon Ji-young found herself in a precarious situation due to Woo Gon's threat to take her as a concubine and King Lee Heon's furious reaction. Though she narrowly escaped danger with the intervention of Queen Dowager Inju (played by Seo Yi-sook), her sincerity-filled roasted five-spice chicken for Prince Jinmyeong (played by Kim Kang-yoon) became entangled in a plot by Kang Mok-ju (played by Kang Han-na) and Prince Jesan (played by Choi Gwi-hwa), leading to her being framed and tortured, ending the episode with a cliffhanger that amplified curiosity about future developments.

Throughout these events, Im Yoon-ah conveyed Yeon Ji-young's unyielding will even in crisis with confident expressions and a firm demeanor, clearly highlighting the character's charm and strength. Her nuanced and dense acting, from moments of anxiety and impatience when the pressure cooker lid was delayed to conveying genuine warmth to a rival chef, allowed viewers to become fully immersed in the character's narrative.

‘Chef of the Tyrant’ airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM on tvN.

Im Yoon-ah has also solidified her status as a versatile entertainer through various advertising modeling roles. Furthermore, she maintains a broad fanbase with her successful solo music career. Her acting prowess has been recognized through numerous awards in acting categories.
