Kim Soo-hyun's Agency Addresses Financial Settlement and Management Controversy
Gold Medalist, the agency representing actor Kim Soo-hyun, has responded to recent allegations concerning financial settlements and its management structure.
Reports had surfaced suggesting that the agency had paid out a mere 670 million KRW in settlements to its actors over the past five years, a figure allegedly significantly lower than industry averages. These concerns were amplified by the massive success of the drama 'Queen of Tears,' starring Kim Soo-hyun, which reportedly generated over 20 billion KRW in revenue for the company.
Further scrutiny arose from reports questioning the legitimacy of the agency's major shareholder, 'Barun Private Equity Fund No. 2,' citing unclear registered address details and raising questions about the transparency of the company's management.
Gold Medalist has strongly refuted these claims. Regarding the settlements, the agency stated that as an unlisted company, it adheres to K-GAAP accounting standards, and actor shares are included in cost of goods sold, posing no issues. Concerning the investor fund's address, they explained that it is common for such funds not to maintain a separate office and that the registration process was lawful.
The agency emphasized its commitment to legal compliance, noting a long-standing advisory contract with a law firm to ensure no violations. However, public opinion remains divided, with ongoing discussions surrounding Kim Soo-hyun and his agency.
Kim Soo-hyun is widely regarded as one of South Korea's top actors, known for his captivating performances and leading roles in numerous successful dramas and films. This latest controversy surrounding his agency adds to a series of public discussions concerning the actor. He is currently taking a break from activities following a personal life issue that is still undergoing legal proceedings.
